Green River formed in Seattle in 1984 and lasted less than three years.
In that time they made the first grunge record anyone ever heard, put Sub Pop Records on the map, and quietly handed the world two of the greatest bands of the 1990s.
Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard went on to form Pearl Jam.
Mark Arm and Steve Turner formed Mudhoney.
Sub Pop called their sound "ultra-loose GRUNGE that destroyed the morals of a generation" — and the word stuck.
Before Nirvana. Before Ten. Before any of it, there was Green River.
The skull is the same. A classic.
Tinges of yellow and loads of green spattered over a cloudy white body — and when you light it up it gives off this really warm glow that I think suits the name perfectly.
It's part of my PUNKD collection and it has that raw, lived-in energy that the collection is all about.
Green River the band never got the credit they deserved.
