Nearly Hidden Nick is part of my HIDDEN COLOUR collection. Except he doesn't quite fit in.
Which is kind of the point.
Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington — Nearly Headless Nick to everyone at Hogwarts — has spent over 500 years being almost but not quite good enough for the Headless Hunt.
Executed on Halloween 1492, the axe was blunt, 45 blows weren't enough, and a half inch of skin and sinew left his head attached just enough to disqualify him from the most exclusive ghost club in the wizarding world.
He's been haunting Gryffindor Tower ever since, mourning the injustice.
John Cleese played him in the films. J.K. Rowling invented him on the very first day she invented Harry Potter.
The skull understands his situation completely.
True HIDDEN COLOUR skulls don't show their lamp colour through their white coverings — the colour is hidden until the light comes on. But I love green so much that I wanted to experiment with this one and really smash the white up a bit, letting the green bleed through.
So like Nick, it almost fits the collection. Not quite. The green is nearly hidden. But not hidden enough.
Honestly I think that makes it better.
P.S. I'm more Python than Potter, but the name just stuck!
